Creative Nonfiction Workshop - Mr. Tim Fitts

Spring 2018 M/Th 9-10:20 am

In this course we will examine narrative processes as they relate to significant personal or public events. We will study how creative nonfiction engages the reader with truths the writer has experienced or observed. Class will be conducted as a workshop setting, while also reading works from literary nonfiction writers, such as Ernest Hemingway, George Orwell, Joyce Carol Oates, Christopher Citro, George Packer, Lee Gutkind, among others.
Students will be required to write short stories for class workshop, as well as critique stories in class workshop. We will also, as a class, conduct an informal study of the creative process of writers and observe similarities in the processes of makers in other creative fields.
