Fiction Workshop - Fall 2018

In this course we will look at all phases of the short story, from developing new ideas and exploring our own narrative voice, to understanding the concept of audience and the function of short fiction. In this class, we will be reading authors currently publishing in the contemporary literary scene, in literary journals such as Ploughshares, Boulevard, The New Yorker, The Georgia Review, Five Point, etc. We will examine the dramatic structure of short stories, as well 15 as mechanics, such as the function of Point of View, Active Voice the inherent musicality of language. Students will be required to write short stories for class workshop, as well as critique stories in class workshop.
