British and Irish Drama - Fall 2019 - Dr. Thomas Apple
(British & Irish Drama FA19)

From Shakespeare and Jonson to Pinter And Churchill, British playwrights have shaped our understanding of the stage and of the life it represents and enacts. In this course we will study the en-acting of life’s dramas. In some cases we find that the play acts upon life and changes public discourse about society, as well as human interaction within that society. Plays will include works by Jonson, Shakespeare, J.M. Synge, Samuel Beckett, Marina Carr, Harold Pinter, Tom Stoppard, Caryl Churchill and others.
